Methodologies
The types of projects eligible under the Voluntary Carbon Market are defined by the carbon methodologies approved, available and published in this section, which establish a set of criteria and guidelines for the recognition of projects and the credits they may generate, in line with the fundamental principles that rule the Voluntary Carbon Market.
A methodology should establish:
- Eligibility criteria and guidance on the assessment of the project additionality, including for the determination of the baseline scenario
- Quantification method (ex ante and ex post) of GHG emissions reduction or carbon sequestration associated with the project, in line with project duration and in accordance with existing good practices
- Project duration, including, when applicable, the minimum and maximum durations, as well as relevant information on the possibility of renewing this period and guidelines for definition of starting date
- Guidelines for the determination of risks, including those of reversal of emissions, and measures to mitigate those risks
- Monitoring, reporting and verification requirements, including for the monitoring plan, the monitoring report and the verification report, specifying the frequency of submission of such reports
- Guidelines for determining potential externalities and indicators that allow their evaluation during the project
For the purposes of development and evaluation of carbon methodologies, a technical monitoring committee (CTA) was established, coordinated by ApC, and which includes representatives from other relevant entities in this context.
The submission of proposals for methodologies by third parties must be made using the template prepared for this purpose, which will be available in the “Documents” section.
Any proposed methodology will be subject to a public consultation process to ensure and encourage the participation of all interested parties before approval by ApC, I.P.
The approval of a carbon methodology determines its inclusion in the list of eligible methodologies, for the purpose of registering projects in the Voluntary Carbon Market.
