Projects
Project types may vary within the GHG emissions reduction or carbon sequestration category, with any type of project being eligible as long as there is an approved carbon methodology and the project complies with the various principles and rules defined therein, whether in the context of the industry, transport, energy, buildings, waste, agriculture or forestry sector.
Emissions reduction projects are quite different from carbon sequestration projects, although both types are framed in the mitigation of GHG emissions.
Category of projects
Carbon capture
Aims to capture carbon from the atmosphere and biologically, geologically, or technologically store it. Some examples of natural carbon capture systems are forests, soils, or marine ecosystems.
Emissions reduction
Aims to reduce the amount of GHG emissions released into the atmosphere, through the adoption of new practices, technologies, or processes.
How does the market work
Project application to the Voluntary Carbon Market
Approval by a verification body
Project available for investment
Project monitoring and verification by a verification body
Registry of transaction in the resgistration platform
The eligible project typologies within the scope of the Voluntary Carbon Market are specified by the carbon methodologies available and published in the Methodologies section, which are developed, either on the initiative of the Technical Monitoring Committee (CTA) or on the initiative of third parties, after approval from APA, I.P.
The project promoter must submit his project proposal in the registration platform for certification in the Voluntary Carbon Market. This application must be accompanied by the respective validation report, prepared by a qualified verification body, who must certify that the project meets the minimum rules and requirements stipulated in the respective carbon methodology.
After registration on the Voluntary Carbon Market, the project and its results will be available so that any individual, entity or organization can invest in it, through the acquisition of available carbon credits, generated throughout the life cycle of the project, after monitoring and confirmation measures through a verification process.
All transactions must be registered on the registration platform, and credits must be canceled by their buyer whenever they are acquired for the purpose of offsetting emissions or contributing to climate action.
